“The Mae Trio has made a meteoric mark on the national acoustic music scene” – Rhythms

“among the best young talent on the Australian folk scene at the moment” – Timber and Steel

With their roots firmly planted in folk tradition, Melbourne-based contemporary folk band, The Mae Trio draw on a range of ideas and influences that transcend their foundations. Featuring 12 exquisite original songs written by The Mae Trio, as well as an a cappella version of Kate Rusby’s 'Lately', their debut album 'Housewarming' overflows with superb vocal harmonies and stellar instrumentation.

Produced and recorded by Luke Plumb, mandolin player in world-renowned Scottish band Shooglenifty, Housewarming also features percussion by highly respected drummer James Mackintosh (Shooglenifty, Transatlantic Sessions).

A testament to the raw talent of its youthful creators – Maggie Rigby (22), Anita Hillman (22) and Elsie Rigby (20) - 'Housewarming' is an impressive debut displaying sophistication both lyrically and musically.

The Mae Trio formed in 2011 winning the Lis Johnston Award for Vocal Excellence at the National Folk Festival (Canberra, Australia). Sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby and Anita Hillman continue to captivate audiences, performing throughout Australia from Port Fairy Folk Festival to the National Celtic Festival, Folkworld Fairbridge Festival and Castlemaine State Festival.

“it’s easy to envisage The Mae Trio attaining a significant following beyond the folk world”
    - Rhythms

The Mae Trio write songs that are surprisingly mature and insightful, arranging them for banjo, cello, fiddle, ukulele, guitar, bass, concert marimba and superb three part vocal harmony. In 2013 the trio won the prestigious Folk Alliance Australia Youth Award.

While the title track, 'Housewarming' is a song about finding your feet in a new place, the album itself is a collection of songs that marks the emergence of a new and refreshing force on the Australian folk scene. A startlingly strong debut, 'Housewarming' proves The Mae Trio have well and truly found their feet.
